    Loperamide is a medication used to treat severe diarrhoea and loose stools. Loperamide hydrochloride capsules can ease short-term attacks of diarrhoea or a loose bowel movement caused by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It works by decelerating your bowel's muscle movements meaning your body can absorb fluids correctly, helping prevent diarrhoea. Suitable for anyone aged 12 and above. Contains 2mg of the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride.

Loperamide capsules are a medication used to stop symptoms of diarrhoea and loose stools. Diarrhoea and loose stools can be caused by a variety of reasons such as medication side effects or even food poisoning. They can be taken throughout the day in even doses, but no more than 6 capsules should be taken in 24 hours.

  • What is the dosage for Loperamide capsules?

    Initially, two capsules should be taken, with a further one capsule taken after each loose stool motion. 

  • Can I take anything for the pain as a result of my loose stools or diarrhoea?

    Yes, pain medication is safe to take with loperamide capsules.

  • Should I be taking anything else to compensate for lost nutrients?

    It is wise to take a rehydration supplement like Dioralyte to replenish any lost nutrients. Discuss this with our online doctor to see if this is suitable for you. If your symptoms last longer than 48 hours stop using Loperamide and see your GP. 

Side Effects

Side effects with loperamide are rare, but some may experience nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath and allergic reactions such as a rash or wheezing.
