Propranolol helps to block the action of noradrenaline on the heart. By blocking noradrenaline, it reduces heart rate, which can help to reduce physical symptoms of anxiety such as tremor, flushing, and dizziness.

Propranolol for anxiety is available in two doses: 10mg or 40mg. Complete our short consultation to see if this medication is right for you.

  • Is Propranolol good for anxiety?

Propranolol is often prescribed for short-term anxiety relief. It can help to reduce physical symptoms like shaking and sweating.

  • Is it possible to overdose on Propranolol?

Yes – and doing so can even result in severe heart problems. Never exceed the stated dose as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist.

  • Does Propranolol cause weight gain?

While it’s one of the go-to drugs for anxiety treatment, some beta-blockers like Propranolol can sometimes cause weight gain, as they slightly reduce the body’s ability to burn fat - although this is less likely at the dose used for anxiety treatment.

  • Can you drink alcohol while taking beta-blockers?

Propranolol lowers your blood pressure. What can happen if you drink while taking beta-blockers is that your blood pressure drops even further, leading to feelings of dizziness and possibly even fainting.
