Betacap scalp application is used for the treatment of eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis of the scalp. It contains the active ingredient betamethasone valerate, which belongs to the corticosteroid medication family. It works by reducing inflammation on the scalp and thus reducing the symptoms of eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.

When to Use Betacap 0.1% Solution?

Betacap 0.1% Scalp Application is an effective prescription-only treatment that reduces the symptoms and discomfort of inflammatory scalp infections.

It's most beneficial when treating:

  • Scalp Psoriasis: A condition that causes scaly, red, and itchy patches of thickened skin. Betacap can relieve inflammation and calm your immune system's response.
  • Seborrheic Dermatitis: As with psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis causes redness and flaking, but Betacap can reduce the symptoms.
  • Scalp Eczema: Other inflammatory skin conditions and types of eczema that impact the scalp may cause itching and redness.

Betacap 0.1% Scalp Application Age Restrictions

Betacap Scalp Solution is suitable for adults and children over one year. If you're treating a young child, please seek medical advice before administering the lotion.

How to Use Betacap Scalp Solution?

This medicine should be thinly applied to the scalp. Betacap should not be used on the face or any other area of the body except the scalp.

When the Betacap scalp solution is applied to the affected area, it helps relieve inflammatory skin conditions.

How to use Betacap scalp solution:

  • Apply a thin layer of Betacap scalp application sparingly to dry hair and scalp, using the bottle's nozzle to direct the solution.
  • Gently massage the solution into the scalp with fingers.
  • Allow the solution to dry naturally.
  • Leave the Betacap solution on your scalp.
  • Wash your hands afterwards.

Apply Betacap scalp application twice a day. When the condition begins to improve, the frequency of applications is reduced.

When to Avoid Using Betacap?

While Betacap can treat inflammatory scalp disorders and relieve symptoms in the affected area, there are some cases when you should either avoid it completely or take precautions.

Avoid Using Betacap If:

  • Allergies: You should avoid using it if you're sensitive or allergic to betamethasone valerate or any other ingredients in Betacap Scalp Solution.
  • Infections: People with scalp and skin infections like shingles, impetigo, and ringworm shouldn't use Betacap as it can worsen the infection. Your doctor will be able to provide appropriate medical treatments instead.
  • Damaged/Broken Skin: Please don't use Betacap on broken or damaged skin, as it can cause pain and worsen your symptoms.
  • Near Heat: Never use Betacap near an open flame or heat source, as it's highly flammable.

Betacap 0.1% Scalp Application Precautions

If any of the following apply, you should avoid using Betacap until you seek advice from a doctor or registered pharmacist:

  • Conditions in Other Areas: You shouldn't use Betacap on your face or body to treat inflammatory skin disorders, unless a doctor instructs you to do so.
  • Long-Term Use: In most cases, you should only use Betacap short-term, as long-term usage can lead to various effects. Your doctor will weigh up whether you can benefit from long-term use.
  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: If you're currently pregnant or breastfeeding, you should ask your doctor if it's safe to use Betacap.

If a doctor or pharmacist feels Betacap Scalp Solution isn't right for you, they'll suggest alternative treatments.

What is Betacap Scalp Application used for?

Betacap Scalp Application is a prescription-only medicine for treating scalp psoriasis and other inflammatory scalp disorders. It's a strong, fast-acting topical corticosteroid, with an active ingredient betamethasone valerate 0.1%.

When the skin becomes irritated, the immune system can go into overdrive and release chemicals which can cause blood vessels to swell and widen, resulting in red, itchy skin.

These symptoms are commonly found in skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Betacap scalp application is usually prescribed only when other corticosteroids, such as eczema treatments, have proved ineffective.

How long can I use Betacap Scalp Application?

If topical corticosteroids are used long-term or on large areas of broken skin, higher amounts of the medicine may be absorbed into the body.

This will increase the risk of experiencing side effects. For this reason, continuous, long-term use of Betacap should be avoided wherever possible.

What other important information do I need to know?

Betacap Scalp Application contains flammable alcohol. It should not be used near lit objects or naked flames, such as gas and electric fires, hairdryers, or lit cigarettes.

Will Betacap scalp application cause skin irritation?

Betacap scalp application can cause side effects, including skin irritation, like all medicines. If this does occur, we advise stopping treatment and seeking alternative treatments.

Can I buy betacap solution online?

Betacap scalp application is a prescription-only medicine. It can not be bought over the counter. This is because it contains the active ingredient, Betamethasone valerate, a topical corticosteroid.

Will my hair get thicker with Betacap scalp application?

This medication is not designed to help with hair growth; however, one of the possible side effects is excessive hair growth.

Can I wash my hair after applying Betacap?

In most cases, it's better to let the solution dry on the affected area for a few hours or overnight before washing your hair. Your doctor will advise on the best course of treatment for your needs.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you forget to apply Betacap, you can apply it once you remember. However, if your next dose is due, then please skip your dose and continue treatment as normal. Betacap is a corticosteroid treatment, so you should never double up.
