Menopause occurs during every woman’s life. It causes natural hormone levels to lower in the body and can lead to some unwanted symptoms. These symptoms can sometimes be uncomfortable and difficult to manage. HRT (hormone replacement therapy) can be used to effectively cope with symptoms related to menopause. Premique is a form of oral HRT that helps to treat unwanted symptoms of menopause. Oral HRT is licensed for use in women who have not had a period in 12 consecutive months. They usually contain estradiol, which helps to replace oestrogen deficiency and a synthetic form of progesterone. Some tablets contain both hormones; some have a 14-day cycle of a single hormone with a 14-day cycle of combined hormones or can contain the only oestrogen.
What are the risks involved in using HRT?
Every medication can come with risks. There are some risks that can occur when using HRT that should be considered before you start treatment. Concerns about certain risks should be discussed in your consultation or with your doctor who will be able to advise. Although risks are uncommon, it’s important to monitor and minimise risks during HRT treatment by attending regular checkups with your doctor.
As with all forms of medication, oral HRT has side effects. Most side effects are not very noticable and will go away over time. However, there is a risk of developing serious side effects that can affect daily life and overall health. Although the potential of developing these side effects is small, if you are suffering from severe side effects, contact your doctor straight away.
