Calpol 6 Plus Strawberry-Flavoured Suspension contains paracetamol, an effective pain reliever and antipyretic. Many young children don't like swallowing pain-relieving tablets, but a liquid suspension is the more convenient way to treat your child.

With 250 mg per 5 ml, Calpol Six Plus in your medicine cabinet means, you can provide instant and effective relief for cold and flu symptoms, headaches, post-operative discomfort, and sore throats.

Calpol 6 Plus is usually tolerated well by children, but there can be some side effects. They include:

  • Allergic Reactions: If your child develops a rash, hives, or any other signs of an allergic response, it's crucial to discontinue the treatment immediately and seek urgent medical attention.
  • Digestive Discomfort: Upset stomach, constipation, nausea and vomiting.
  • Other symptoms: Headaches, dizziness, or drowsiness may occur, but these effects are rare.

While some children might experience more severe effects, this is usually uncommon. Potential complications include:

  • Liver & Kidney Damage: Failing to use the easy dose syringe correctly could lead to ongoing overdoses. Even if they're minor, they can still cause liver and kidney damage.
  • Severe Allergic Reactions: Any reactions that can be life-threatening, including swelling of the tongue or throat, require immediate medical support.
What symptoms does Calpol 6 Plus treat?

Calpol 6 Plus can ease pain from headaches, toothaches, sore throats, earaches, and muscle aches. It also treats post-immunisation fever and high temperatures from infections.

How much Calpol 6 Plus should I give to my child?

When using the dosing syringe, make sure you don't exceed the maximum amount for your child's age:

  • Teens Aged Between 12-16: 10 to 15 ml up to four times daily.
  • Children Aged 8-10: 7.5ml up to four times daily.
  • Children Aged 6-8: 5ml up to four times daily.
  • Children Aged 10-12: 10ml up to four times daily.
  • Over 16: Between 10 to 20 ml up to four times daily.
Can Calpol 6 Plus be given to children under 6?

No, Calpol 6 Plus isn't suitable for kids under 6 years old, as it contains over twice the strength of Calpol Infant Suspension. Younger children should always use the Infant Suspension, which is a safer option as it doesn't contain as much paracetamol.

How quickly does Calpol 6 Plus work?

Calpol 6 Plus usually begins to work within 15 to 30 minutes, and the effects can last up to four hours.

Is Calpol safe for use with other medicines?

Please ask your healthcare professional before taking Calpol 6 Plus while you're using other medicines. If your child's taking anything else that contains paracetamol, it can result in an overdose.

What should I do if I accidentally give too much?

If you give your child too much Calpol, it's vital to seek immediate medical advice. Even if there are no instant symptoms, paracetamol overdoses can cause long-term organ damage.

Can adults take Calpol 6 Plus?

Yes, adults and children over 12 can take Calpol 6 Plus, following the dosage on the label. Even though Calpol can be beneficial for adults, it's usually best to take a medicine formulated for adults to ensure optimal symptom relief.
