For diarrhoea, adults, the elderly and children over 12 years old should take two or three 5ml spoonfuls (10-15ml) every 4 hours up to a maximum of three doses. For coughs, adults, the elderly and children over 12 years should take one or two 5ml spoonfuls (5-10ml) of Collis Browne Mixture every 4 hours. Elderly and debilitated patients are recommended to ask their doctor for advice, as a lower dose might be more suitable.

  • When should J Collis Browne's Mixture not be used?

    Do not use the medicine if you or your child have, an allergy to any of the ingredients, shallow breath or breathing difficulties, a head injury or persistent headache, asthma, taken MAOIs (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors) for depression within the last two weeks, a blocked intestine or inflammation of your colon or rectum, an addiction to alcohol or if your child is under the age of 6.

Important side effects

  • Allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, wheezing)
  • Drowsiness or difficulty sleeping.
  • Difficulty in breathing.
  • Muscle twitching, spasms or muscle rigidity.
  • Dizziness or fainting.
  • Changes in heart rate or palpitations (awareness of your heartbeat)
  • Fits (seizures).
  • Change in eyesight e.g. blurred vision, pinpoint pupils, unusual eye movement.
  • Confusion, mood changes, feeling restless, excited or agitated. Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things).
  • Severe abdominal or back pain, e.g. caused by bile duct problems

This is a medicine; Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have an underlying medical condition, are taking any other medication or complementary therapy, or if symptoms persist, seek advice before using if you are breastfeeding, pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or suffer from allergies, keep all medicines out of the reach of children. This medicine may cause drowsiness, it is therefore recommended to not drive or use machinery when using this product. This product is for short-term use only and may cause addiction.

This medicine contains 2.3 vol% ethanol (alcohol), i.e. up to 351mg per 15ml dose, equivalent to 7ml beer or 3ml wine per dose. Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into account in pregnant and breastfeeding women, children and high-risk groups such as patients with liver disease and epilepsy.
