When to Use Orlos 60mg Capsules?

Orlos 60mg Capsules contain orlistat, an effective weight-loss aid. They're suitable if you're trying to lose weight and are willing to commit to a low-fat, calorie-controlled diet.

They're only suitable if you have a BMI of 28 or higher and can commit to a maximum of 30% of your daily nutrition intake as fat.

Because the tablets work, you should only take them with a meal that contains fat. It's also important to remember that Orlos isn't a magic weight-loss drug; it complements a low-fat, calorie-controlled diet.

Age Restrictions for Orlos 60mg

Orlos 6mg tablets are suitable for adults over 18, and they're not clinically proven for use in children under 18. You should never administer it to a child or teenager, regardless of their BMI.

How to Use Orlos to Lose Weight?

Orlos is a powerful medication, and it's essential to follow the exact instructions to avoid side effects:

  • Dosage: The recommended dose is 1 capsule 3 times daily, with a maximum of 3 capsules in 24 hours.
  • Timing: Take each capsule with water before, during or after a meal.
  • Meal Types: If you consume a meal that doesn't contain any fat or skip a meal, you shouldn't take an Orlos capsule. They're only designed to work with calorie-controlled diets. You should always eat lower-fat meals.
  • Use Supplements: Orlos can affect nutrient absorption, potentially leading to vitamin deficiencies. Taking a daily multivitamin can reduce these effects.

Orlos works by preventing 25% of dietary fat from being absorbed, thereby promoting weight loss. However, if you consume high-fat meals, you could experience severe side effects.

These range from stomach cramps to oily spotting and urgent bowel movements.

Who Should Avoid Using Orlos 60mg Capsules?

Because Orlos contains orlistat, there are some cases when you should avoid it. These include:

  • BMI below 28: If your BMI is under 28, Orlos isn't suitable for you.
  • Pregnant or Breastfeeding: Please avoid using Orlos while you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Malabsorption Syndrome: Orlos can cause malabsorption problems. If you already have a condition, it can worsen your symptoms.
  • Cholestasis: Individuals with this liver condition may experience bile flow blockages and worsening symptoms.
  • Allergies: If you're allergic or sensitive to any of the ingredients in Orlos, you shouldn't use it.
  • Certain Medications: Taking certain medications, such as Ciclosporin, Anticoagulants, or treatments for diabetes and heart conditions, or Orlos, isn't suitable.

Precautions for Orlos 60mg Capsules:

If any of the following apply, you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using Orlos:

  • Kidney Disease: Medicines containing orlistat have a small risk of kidney stones in people with kidney problems.
  • Diabetes: If you lose weight while using Orlos, your medication may need to be adjusted. That's why it's important to notify your doctor so they can monitor your condition.
  • Epilepsy: Orlistat may affect the absorption of anti-epileptic drugs, which can increase seizure frequency.
  • Thyroid Disease: Levothyroxine and orlistat may need to be taken at different times, and your thyroid levels should be monitored.
  • Contraception: Some people experience diarrhoea while using Orlas, which means the contraceptive pill might not be absorbed.

What is Orlos 60mg?

Orlos weight loss capsules are a medicine that can be taken regularly to help you lose weight alongside a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet. It contains the active ingredient orlistat. Orlos weight loss capsules are suitable for people over 18 years old who are overweight and have a BMI of 28 or above.

For every 2kg you lose from dieting alone, Orlos weight loss capsules can help you lose up to 1kg more.

How does Orlos work?

The active ingredient is designed to specifically target fat in your digestive system. It blocks enzymes in your digestive system from breaking down and absorbing the fat that you eat. This means that instead of being absorbed into the body, the fat passes through your digestive system and passes out with your stools. Research suggests around a third to a quarter of the fat you eat with Orlos will not be absorbed by the body.

Studies estimate that orlistat stops around a third of the fat you eat from being absorbed by the body. Combined with healthy eating and an exercise program, this can be an effective weight loss plan. Orlos can reduce the absorption of certain vitamins, so you should take a multivitamin when using this medicine.

How long does it take for Orlos to start working?

Orlos activates when you take your first dose, blocking your body's ability to absorb fat during digestion. However, it can take a few weeks for weight loss to appear, and it also depends on whether you follow a reduced-calorie diet combined with exercise.

How much weight can I realistically lose with Orlos?

It varies per person. However, when you use Orlistat properly, you can expect to lose up to 5% of your body weight within 12 weeks and up to 10% more within a year.

Do I need to exercise while taking Orlos?

Orlos works best when combined with a balanced diet and regular exercise. It's not a miracle product, and you won't experience instant results.

What happens if I eat a high-fat meal while taking Orlos?

If you eat a high-fat meal while using Orlos, you may experience unpleasant side effects. These include stomach cramps, gas, oily stools, and urgent bowel movements.

It's essential to limit your fat intake to 30% of your daily calories to reduce these effects.

Warnings

You should not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. People with food absorption problems, or a condition called cholestasis, should not take this medicine. If you have kidney disease or diabetes, you should contact your doctor before taking Orlos.

Certain medicines can interact with Orlos. You should not take Orlos if you’re taking a medicine called ciclosporin, a medicine called acarbose, or any blood thinners (such as warfarin). See the patient information leaflet for further advice on Orlos and other conditions and medicines.

The oral contraceptive pill may be less effective if you experience severe diarrhoea while taking Orlos. You should use an extra method of contraception if you experience severe diarrhoea as a side effect.

Orlos should only be taken by people with a BMI over 28.
