Skinoren 20% cream contains azelaic acid which helps to stop pores clogging on the face and in turn preventing acne.
This medicine should only be used to treat acne (acne vulgaris).

Skinoren 20% cream is a topical prescription cream used to treat acne. It contains azelaic acid which reduces the growth of the harder outer skin cells - keratin surface skin cells, which can block pores, causing blackheads and whiteheads.
Skinoren also kills the acne causing bacteria which lives on the skin.

Skinoren cream contains azelaic acid which works by reducing the growth of keratin surface skin cells, as well as killing bacteria which can cause acne.
By limiting bacterial numbers on your skin, the sebaceous glands don't become so inflamed, and your skin can heal.
How quickly does Skinoren cream work?
How quickly Skinoren cream works varies from person to person and how bad your acne is to begin with.
Most people will see an improvement in their acne symptoms after 4 weeks of using the topical cream.
To get the best results from Skinoren, you need to use skinoren cream for a prolonged period of time. However, you shouldn't use skinoren cream for more than 12 months at a time.
Is Skinoren good for skin?
Skinoren cream contains the active ingredient azelaic acid, which works by reducing the amount of sebum produced by your sebaceous glands.
The acne causing bacteria feeds on this sebum, producing waste that irritates the sebaceous glands, resulting in inflammation and infection i.e. spots.
By limiting the number of bacteria on the skin, the skin can begin to heal.
Just make sure the topical treatment doesn't come into contact with eyes, mouth or other mucous membranes. If it does, wash them thoroughly with cool water.

How do I use Skinoren cream?
Before using Skinoren 20% cream, thoroughly wash your entire facial area with a mild skin cleansing agent. Dry your face before you apply Skinoren cream.
Apply Skinoren cream to the areas affected by acne twice daily. You should cover the whole affected area, not just the individual spots.
If you have sensitive skin and this treatment irritates your skin initially, reduce the applications to once daily until the irritation passes, and then slowly increase back to twice daily applications.
Can I use other acne treatments with Skinoren cream (azelaic acid)?
You can combine Skinoren with other acne treatments such as oral antibiotic acne treatments, but Skinoren should not be used alongside any other acne creams as it may cause excessive skin dryness or skin irritation.
I have started using Skinoren cream and the treated area is red and irritated, is this normal?
Redness and irritation of the treated area can occur when you use Skinoren Cream for the first time. This is not usually serious and subsides typically within a week.
During this time, reduce the frequency application to once daily to allow your skin to recover and then slowly build up to using it twice daily.
Can I use this cream when pregnant?
