When to Use Clenil Modulite Inhalers?

As a preventer inhaler, Clenil is designed for daily use. Unlike fast-acting blue inhalers, brown variants like Clenil can prevent your symptoms from occurring.

If your GP prescribes the inhaler, you should continue using it, even if you feel well.

Healthcare professionals typically recommend Clenil inhalers for:

  • Wheezing and shortness of breath occur more than twice weekly.
  • Coughing - especially during the night.
  • Individuals who experience frequent asthma symptoms that impact daily activities.

It can also be part of a treatment plan for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).

How to use a Clenil Modulite inhaler properly?

Always read the instructions on your preventer inhaler, as they will provide you with precise instructions on how to use it correctly.

As a general rule, to use your Clenil inhalers and help prevent symptoms of asthma, there are a few steps to follow:

  1. If you haven't used the inhaler for a few days, e.g. three or more days, release one puff to make sure it is working
  2. If this is the first time you're using the inhaler, make sure the dose indicator reads what your doctor has prescribed
  3. Remove the mouthpiece cover and shake the inhaler. Then hold it upright and place your thumb underneath the mouthpiece.
  4. Exhale as far as is comfortable, then position the mouthpiece between your teeth and close your lips around it - but do not bite it. Inhale through your mouth and depress the top of the canister as you breathe deeply.
  5. Hold your breath for a few seconds, or as long as is comfortable. If you're taking a second puff, wait for 30 seconds, then repeat the above puffs.
  6. Remember to replace the mouthpiece cover on the inhaler when you're finished.

When to Avoid Using Clenil Modulite?

Clenil is a highly effective inhaler, but there are some cases when you shouldn't use it. These include:

  • Asthma Attacks: As a preventative inhaler, Clenil isn't effective during an asthma attack. Corticosteroids gradually reduce inflammation, but they don't work the same as reliever inhalers.
  • Allergies or Sensitivities: If you're allergic or sensitive to any of the active or inactive ingredients in Clenil Modulite inhalers, using them could cause a reaction.
  • Infections: Clenil contains a steroid that can affect immune responses in your throat and lungs. If you have oral thrush, bacterial infections, systemic viral infections, or fungal infections, you should avoid using the inhaler until a GP says it's safe to do so.

Precautions for Clenil Modulite

Clenil is for long-term usage. You should continue to take it for as long as your GP says, instead of just using it when your symptoms flare up.

Other precautions include:

  • Pregnant/Breastfeeding: Low doses of Clenil are safe if your healthcare provider recommends using it.
  • Young Children: While young children can use the inhaler, higher doses may affect their growth. That's why it's important follow the dosage recommendations carefully.
  • Switching Medications: If you're switching to Clenil from a different inhaler (especially a CFC-based treatment), your GP will need to assess the correct dosage.

What is Clenil Modulite?

Clenil Modulite is a brown preventer inhaler. It contains an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways to help prevent asthma symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and difficulty breathing.

Clenil Modulite is not a reliever inhaler and should therefore not be used to treat asthma symptoms once they have started. It's also not suitable for use to relieve sudden asthma attacks (asthma attacks can be very dangerous and require immediate medical attention).

If you experience an asthma attack with severe difficulty breathing, use your reliever inhaler (Ventolin, Salbutamol, etc.) as directed on the label.

Will a Clenil Modulite inhaler help to treat an Asthma attack?

There are two types of inhalers: preventers and relievers. Preventer inhalers such as Clenil Modulite are used daily to control inflammation in the airways, helping reduce the risk of an asthma attack.

Clenil Modulite inhalers will not provide relief from an asthma attack.

Does Clenil Modulite work immediately to limit asthma symptoms?

The active ingredient in a Clenil inhaler starts working immediately; you will likely notice an improvement in your breathing problems within a week of daily use.

Should I be getting this bad taste in my mouth?

If you are using your Clenil Modulite inhaler correctly, the medicine should be going straight into your lungs. This requires you to time your inhalation correctly and activate the device. If your technique is incorrect, the medicine may remain in your mouth, leaving a bad taste.

How does my Clenil inhaler work?

The beclomethasone in the inhaler reduces lung inflammation, lowering your risk of an asthma attack.

How long will I need to use my Clenil Modulite inhaler?

Clenil Modulite is a long-term treatment that you use every day, even when you’re feeling well.

You need one preventer inhaler for each of your worst symptoms – most people need two or more different types of preventer inhalers, depending on the severity of their condition and what triggers their asthma attacks.

Reliever Inhalers are short-term treatments used when someone has an asthma attack and needs quick relief from wheezing, shortness of breath, or tightness in the chest.

Are Clenil Modulite steroid inhalers?

Clenil Modulite is a pressurised steroid inhaler used to prevent the symptoms of mild, moderate or severe asthma.

It contains the active ingredient beclometasone dipropionate, a corticosteroid (commonly referred to simply as a steroid).
