FAQ

  • How do I take Maxalt Melt?

Maxalt Melt is an oro-dispersible medication, meaning that it is taken by placing the medication on your tongue, where it then dissolves into the bloodstream. When you take Maxalt Melt, allow the medication to sit on your tongue until it is fully absorbed. Do not drink or eat whilst you are waiting for Maxalt Melt to dissolve.

Maxalt Melt's orodispersible format is particularly helpful in cases where nausea and vomiting occur with migraines, as it is not swallowed.

  • Can you take Maxalt Melt and Paracetamol for a migraine headache?

If your initial dose of Maxalt Melt has not controlled your migraine, it is okay to take Paracetamol, Aspirin and other medications such as Ibuprofen (NSAIDs) to help with pain relief.

Not everybody is suitable to take Maxalt Melt. Do not take Maxalt Melt if:

    • you have ever had an allergic reaction to rizatriptan benzoate or any of the ingredients listed in the medicine
    • you have high blood pressure that is not controlled by medicine
    • you have ever had heart disease, including a heart attack, angina, or chest pain

    • you are taking ergotamine-type medication or other triptan medicines, or other migraine treatments
  • How long does Maxalt Melt take to work to stop a migraine attack?

Maxalt Melt should work within 30 minutes. If your migraine persists, you can take a second dose two hours after taking the initial dose. Maxalt Melt works fastest when taken on an empty stomach.

As Maxalt Melt is administered in an orodispersible format, it is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream to help relieve symptoms of severe migraine attacks. Compared to tablets, this allows the medication to target symptom areas much more quickly.

  • Should I take Maxalt Melt with food to relieve migraine symptoms?

There are no specific requirements to take Maxalt Melt with, or without, food.

  • Is Maxalt Melt affected by alcohol, antibiotics or the contraceptive pill?

No, Maxalt Melt should only be taken when your doctor has diagnosed migraines. And it should only be taken when you are having a migraine headache.
