Maxalt melt is the branded form of Rizatriptan and the oro-dispersible form of Maxalt. Whilst it is the same strength as its generic form, it presents itself in tablet form that is designed to dissolve on the tongue. This medication can alleviate the symptoms of a migraine; it does not treat it. It belongs to a family of medication called triptans. They work by reducing the pain signals which are sent to the brain by blocking certain receptors. It also helps reduce the effects of nausea and sensitivity to stimulus, such as light. This medication is effective when taken at the earliest opportunity from when a migraine begins.

    • Effective pain relief upon onset
    • Treatment for migraine
    • Simple dissolve on the tongue formulation

Maxalt, the brand name of Rizatriptan, is a medication used to narrow the blood vessels in the brain, which can help to reduce pressure and relieve the symptoms of migraine attacks.

  • How do I take Maxalt Melt?

Take one wafer, as soon as possible, at the onset of a migraine. You can repeat the dose after 2 hours if the migraine has not subsided.

  • Can I use other migraine treatments with Maxalt Melt?

You can use painkillers and anti-sickness treatments with Maxalt Melt.

These include paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin-based painkillers.

  • Should I take Maxalt Melt with food?

There are no specific requirements to take Maxalt Melt with, or without, food.

  • Is Maxalt Melt affected by alcohol, antibiotics or the contraceptive pill?

You may want to avoid alcohol during a migraine as this could make it worse. However, it will not make Maxalt Melt less effective.

Although Maxalt Melt is not affected by the contraceptive pill, migraines can be linked to hormonal changes during your period.

  • Does this medication work on regular headaches?

This treatment often relieves other symptoms that occur together with a migraine headache, such as nausea, tension, vomiting and sensitivity to light. If you have a regular headache, you should use ordinary painkillers like paracetamol.

  • Can you drive while taking Maxalt Melt medication?

Maxalt Melt can make you feel tired or sleepy. If this happens, avoid driving or using heavy machinery for your safety.
