How do I take Rizatriptan 10 mg tablets?
Take one Rizatriptan 10 mg tablet as soon as possible, at the onset of a migraine. You can repeat the dose 2 hours after the initial dose if the migraine has not subsided.
Can I use other migraine treatments alongside Rizatriptan Tablets to treat migraine headache?
You can use painkillers and anti-sickness treatments alongside Rizatriptan, including paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin-based painkillers.
You should not take other migraine treatments, such as other triptans or ergotamine type medications, at the same time as Rizatriptan.
Should I take Rizatriptan orodispersible tablets with food?
There are no specific requirements to take Rizatriptan with, or without, food.
Is Rizatriptan affected by alcohol, antibiotics or the contraceptive pill?
You may want to avoid alcohol during a migraine as this could make it worse. However, it will not make Rizatriptan less effective.
Although Rizatriptan is not affected by the contraceptive pill, migraines can be linked to hormonal changes during your period.
Can I take Rizatriptan for regular headache symptoms?
Rizatriptan should only be used to target migraine headaches, as well as symptoms that occur with migraines including nausea, vomiting, tension and light sensitivity.
To treat a regular headache, it is advisable to take standard painkillers such as paracetamol.
Can you drive while taking Rizatriptan medication?
If you begin to feel tired or drowsy after taking Rizatriptan, it is advisable not to drive. You should also avoid using heavy machinery if you experience drowsiness.

- If you have liver or kidney disease

- If you've had a previous cerebrovascular accident
Also, do not take Rizatriptan if you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors, or if you have taken one in the past 2 weeks.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you take other over the counter medicines, vitamins, or herbal remedies, or other medications such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors.
Side Effects
Like all medications, Rizatriptan has risks of possible side effects. Side effects of taking Rizatriptan may include pressure or painful sensations in the chest. Alongside this, feelings of numbness or tingling are also associated with Rizatriptan. These side effects often go away quickly.
Other common side effects of Rizatriptan include:
- Chest pain
- Feelings of sickness and nausea or vomiting, however these may be symptoms of the migraine itself
- Feelings of drowsiness or sleepiness
- Feeling dizzy, weak, or feeling hot flush sensations
- A short-term high blood pressure
- Shortness of breath
- Dry mouth
Tell your doctor immediately if you experience:
- Severe headache symptoms
- Blurred vision
- Adverse reactions
- Muscle weakness
