  • Dry mouth
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation

There are some rare yet severe side effects associated with esomeprazole, including severe allergic reaction.

You should seek medical attention if you experience joint pain along with a red skin rash, especially in parts of your body exposed to the sun, such as your arms, cheeks and nose.

How do Esomeprazole 20mg tablets work?

It works by preventing certain enzymes within the stomach from producing acid. This leads to a decrease in acid refluxing up towards the respiratory tract and causing symptoms associated with all the conditions above.

It is recommended that you take a daily dose regularly for therapeutic results to be at their most effective.

How long does Esomeprazole take to work?

Proton pump inhibitor medicines can take 2-3 days to begin to take effect, and up to 4 weeks to work fully.

What is the difference between prescription and over-the-counter proton pump inhibitors?

Both prescription and over-the-counter PPIs contain the same active ingredients. They work in the same way, but OTC medications may contain a lower dose.

Are esomeprazole 20mg tablets safe?

Long-term use can cause severe PPI side effects. Kidney disease, bacterial infections and bone fractures are some of the PPIs’ most serious side effects. You should only use this medication long term if advised by a healthcare professional.

How does Esomeprazole help gastroesophageal reflux disease?

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD) is a condition which means you keep getting acid reflux.

Esomeprazole reduces stomach acid making it a suitable medication to treat a range of conditions including indigestion, heartburn, acid reflux, and GORD.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you realise. However, if there is less than 12 hours until your next dose, wait until it's time for the next dose.

How do you take a PPI?

PPIs should be taken on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes to one hour before eating breakfast.

How long will I have to keep taking PPIs?

PPIs are supposed to be taken for two to eight weeks, depending on the condition being treated.

Can I drink alcohol?

Drinking alcohol while taking PPIs can result in increased side effects including excessive stomach acid and increased acid reflux.
