When to Use Fostair Inhalers?
Fostair inhalers are effective treatments for asthma, as they reduce symptoms and can offer support during an attack.
Here are the most popular use cases for the inhalers:
- Daily Asthma Treatment: The inhalers are used daily to control asthma symptoms and prevent them from worsening.
- Reliever Inhalers: If you're experiencing an asthma attack, Fostair inhalers can prevent it from getting out of control and regulate your breathing.
- Extra Support: If your asthma isn't controlled with standard inhaler treatments, a doctor or pharmacist may recommend Fostair as an add-on treatment.
- COPD: People with COPD can use Fostair 100/6 inhalers to reduce their symptoms. However, this should only be with medical advice.
Fostair Inhalers Age Restrictions:
The Fostair Pink Inhaler is only suitable for adults over 18. It's a powerful treatment, and there are safer alternatives for children. Please speak to your doctor or a registered pharmacist.
How to Use Fostair Inhalers?
If you're using a new inhaler, you'll need to prime it beforehand. To do so
- Remove the cap, hold the inhaler away from you, with the mouthpiece away from your face, and push it down to release a puff into the air.
- When using the inhaler, breathe out first and then place your mouth around the mouthpiece. Breathe in slowly and push down on the inhaler to release the medication.
- Continue to breathe in and hold your breath for around five to ten seconds.
If prescribed, follow the same steps to take the second puff, then rinse your mouth with water.
Each inhaler has a dose counter; when it reaches 20, a new prescription must be ordered.
When to avoid using the Fostair Pink Inhaler?
If any of the following apply, you should avoid using the Fostair inhaler and seek alternatives:
- Allergies: If you're sensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients in Fostair, it's essential to avoid using it, as you could suffer a severe allergic reaction.
- Heart Problems: People with angina, heart disease, and high cholesterol may need to avoid using Fostair - especially if the condition is severe.
- High Blood Pressure: Fostair cannot be used by people with high blood pressure that isn't currently controlled through treatment.
Fostair Pink Inhaler Precautions
While the following won't automatically rule you out of using Fostair, it's important to seek medical advice:
- Thyroid Issues: Overactive thyroid symptoms can potentially worsen when using Fostair.
- Diabetes: Fostair in high doses can potentially increase your blood glucose levels, so it's important to monitor them when using the inhaler.
- Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Other asthma treatments are better for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as Fostair could potentially cause complications.
- Medication Interactions: Some medicines, including beta-blockers, other asthma or COPD treatments, and some antidepressants, can cause potential interactions. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist of any medications you're using.
Ingredients of Fostair Inhaler
It contains two active ingredients - beclometasone dipropionate and formoterol fumarate dihydrate:
- Beclometasone dipropionate, a corticosteroid, is an anti-inflammatory that reduces irritation and swelling in the lungs. Corticosteroids are regularly used to suppress the immune system, which is pivotal to treating the symptoms and complications of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
- Formoterol fumarate dihydrate is a muscle relaxant that allows the lungs to dilate, allowing the patient to breathe easier. It belongs to a family of drugs called Long-Acting Bronchodilators (LABA).
Both these active ingredients combined in the Fostair Inhaler will give the patient relief from asthma and COPD symptoms for long periods of time.
Side Effects of Fostair Inhaler
Like all medicines, Fostair can carry a risk of side effects.
For Fostair, the most common side effects include:
- Hoarseness
- Sore throat
- Fungal infections such as oral thrush
- Headache.
Other side effects can occur, but these are classified as rare. If you experience any side effects, speak to your doctor immediately.

What is Fostair pink inhaler?
Fostair inhaler is the pink asthma inhaler that is used to treat asthma and COPD patients. It's a combination of inhaled corticosteroids beclomethasone dipropionate and formoterol fumarate dihydrate, a long acting bronchodilator.
Beclometasone dipropionate is a steroid that helps protect the body from developing asthma symptoms. While symptoms may still occur while using the inhaler, they will be significantly reduced.
Formoterol is a long acting bronchodilator that helps open up the airways and relax the muscles for up to 12 hours. It normally works within 1-3 minutes of inhalation.
The medicine is delivered directly to the lungs. Because the pink fostair inhaler is a combination inhaler, the patient does not require a separate reliever inhaler and a preventer inhaler.
How often should I use Fostair Inhaler?
It all depends on what the doctor recommends for you when using the Fostair Inhaler.
Usually, the Fostair dosage is either one puff twice a day, or two puffs twice a day. On occasion, a higher dose of Fostair Inhaler can be used, but this is strictly under the doctor's supervision.
If using the medicine as a reliever inhaler and preventer inhaler, the recommended dose is one puff, two times a day, with an additional six puffs to relieve symptoms if required.
Maximum daily dose is eight puffs.
How long does Fostair inhaler take to work?
If using fostair inhalers as a quick-acting reliever inhaler, the formoterol starts to work within 1-3 minutes.
Can I use Fostair Inhaler more than the stated dose?
We wouldn't recommend using Fostair Inhaler more than the stated dose.
If you do require more than the stated Fostair dosage, then this could mean that your respiratory disease isn't being managed and is labelled as uncontrolled.
If you're taking more than the optimal dose, we recommend you make an appointment to discuss your Fostair Inhaler usage with your GP, as you might need to consider other inhaler treatments.
Is the Fostair inhaler a reliever inhaler?
Fostair inhalers are combination inhalers - they're both a reliever inhaler and a preventer inhaler.
Does the Fostair inhaler relieve asthma symptoms?
Fostair inhalers are reliever inhalers that, with every puff, not only relieve asthma symptoms but also treat asthma and its underlying causes.
Does Fostair work for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease?
Fostair inhalers can treat symptoms of severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). They're particularly beneficial for people who suffer from repeated breathlessness or shortness of breath.
Is Fostair the same as a blue inhaler?
No, Fostair isn't the same. Blue inhalers usually contain salbutamol and provide instant relief during an attack. Fostair is both a preventer and a reliever, so it's a long-term treatment.
Can Fostair be used during an asthma attack?
Fostair isn't a replacement for emergency treatment, and severe asthma attacks may require medical attention. However, it can help you during the early stages and prevent an attack from worsening.
Can I drive or operate machinery after using Fostair?
Yes, most people are fine with resuming normal daily activities. However, if you feel shaky and dizzy or experience any symptoms, you should wait until you get used to the medication or seek medical advice.
Can Fostair inhaler be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
In most cases, your doctor will recommend an alternative asthma treatment, as Fostair can be dangerous during pregnancy.
What should I do if I forget a dose of Fostair?
If you're using Fostair as a daily treatment and forget to take a dose, please use the inhaler as soon as you remember. However, if it's closer to your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your schedule.
Do I need to rinse my mouth after using Fostair?
Yes, it's a good idea to rinse your mouth after using Fostair inhalers, as they contain steroids. Failing to rinse your mouth increases the risk of oral thrush.
