Soolantra cream is a prescription medicine cream that contains the active ingredient Ivermectin, an anti-inflammatory that belongs to a group of medicines known as Avermectins.

This cream treats pimples as it kills parasites such as Demodex mites – another factor linked to inflamed skin and acne rosacea symptoms.

When to Use Soolantra Cream for Treating Rosacea?

There are different types of rosacea, and Soolantra cream (Ivermectin 1%) treats papulopustular rosacea (spots and inflammatory lesions).

These bumps affect the face and can sometimes be mistaken for acne. However, Soolantra can reduce them and improve your skin.

Please speak to a doctor or registered pharmacist before using the cream, as they can determine whether you're suffering from rosacea, general acne, or another skin condition.

Soolantra Cream Age Restrictions

Soolantra cream is only suitable for treating rosacea in adults over 18. Rosacea symptoms in children are rare, and the cream hasn't been tested in people under 18.

How to Use Soolantra?

In most cases, you'll apply Soolantra cream once daily. Please follow these instructions when using it:

  1. Prepare: Wash and cleanse your face with a gentle solution. Rosacea can flare up when you scrub your face or use a cleanser that isn't suitable for sensitive skin. You should also wash your hands.
  2. Apply: We recommend using five pea-sized amounts, applying each to your cheeks, chin, forehead and nose. Gently rub the cream and avoid applying it near your eyes and mouth.
  3. Finish: Wash your hands after applying the cream and ensure your skin has absorbed it before applying any moisturisers.

Remember that treatment success depends on consistency. Try to apply the cream simultaneously each morning or evening, and always use the full course.

You won't notice results immediately; the cream can take a few weeks to work.

Who Should Avoid Using Soolantra Rosacea Treatments?

While Soolantra is generally a safe treatment, there are some cases where you may need to avoid using it. These include:

  • Under 18: Soolantra isn't tested for use in children and teenagers under 18.
  • Allergies: If you're allergic or sensitive to Ivermectin or other ingredients in Soolantra, you should avoid using the cream, as it can cause allergic reactions.

Soolantra Cream Precautions:

  • Liver Disease: People with severe liver disease or kidney failure should contact their doctor before using Soolantra, as it can worsen their symptoms.
  • Pregnant/Breastfeeding: Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid using the cream, unless their doctor recommends otherwise.

As a prescription-only treatment, you won't be able to access Soolantra unless your doctor says it's safe for treating your rosacea.

How long does Soolantra cream take to work?

Soolantra cream usually takes effect reasonably quickly – most people notice an improvement in their skin condition after four weeks of treatment.

Of course, the speed at which people see results can vary slightly from person to person. However, your skin condition can take up to four months to improve.

Please note that when starting treatment, you may experience a worsening in your symptoms. If this happens, stop treatment and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Do Demodex mites cause all cases of Rosacea?

No, while specialists believe that the mites play a role in rosacea symptoms, it's important to remember that the condition often develops due to multiple factors.

For example, people are more likely to experience skin redness if their family members have it, while others have flare-ups due to weather changes, drinking alcohol, or a natural immune response.

Does Soolantra cream have steroids in it?

No – Soolantra cream is not a steroid cream. Its active ingredient, Ivermectin, is an anti-inflammatory designed to soothe rosacea.

How often should I apply Soolantra cream?

Please complete the full course of treatment to ensure that your skin has time to heal. Apply the cream once daily, and speak to a healthcare professional if you don't notice any improvements.

What are the different types of rosacea?

There are four main types of rosacea:

  • Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea: ETR is a condition that causes red facial skin. It often occurs due to genetic or environmental factors, and the individual may experience frequent facial erythema.
  • Papulopustular Rosacea (PPR): PPR is the type of rosacea that Soolantra cream treats. Severe papulopustular rosacea can be painful, but the cream will treat inflammatory lesions.
  • Phymatous Rosacea: If your condition is left untreated, it can turn into Phymatous rosacea, which causes thickened skin. Many people have also noticed that their noses have changed shape.
  • Ocular Rosacea: As the name suggests, ocular rosacea affects the eyes and can lead to ongoing discomfort.

While some people only experience one type of rosacea, others may simultaneously experience multiple types.

How long should you use Soolantra cream?

The duration of treatment can vary from person to person and depends on the severity of your rosacea. You may notice an improvement after four weeks of treatment.

Does Soolantra cream reduce rosacea symptoms?

Soolantra cream works to reduce redness and inflammatory lesions associated with rosacea symptoms. In clinical trials, patients using Soolantra cream saw a reduction in symptoms in under two weeks.

Does Soolantra cream cause skin irritation?

In some cases, Soolantra cream does irritate the skin. The most common adverse reactions are a burning skin feeling and irritated skin.
