Finasteride 1mg, sold under the brand name Propecia, is an alpha-reductase inhibitor, which works to reduce the production of testosterone. Testosterone acts to shrink hair follicles; however, Finasteride blocks this action, reducing hair loss.

  • Does Finasteride work on older men too?

Finasteride works in men of any age and is indicated for use in men over the age of 18. It has, however, shown to be most effective in younger men.

  • Is Finasteride a permanent hair loss treatment?

For people that have taken Finasteride 1mg daily, it has shown to be effective and work for 15 years or more and typically works for the full duration of the course of treatment. There is a possibility that the effectiveness of Finasteride may lose some of its effectiveness over time.

  • Does Finasteride cause infertility?

For the majority of men taking Finasteride tablets, they do not experience any problems when trying to conceive.

  • Can I stop taking Finasteride?

If you stop taking Finasteride tablets, it will not lead to further hair loss. However, you will not receive the benefits you had while you were taking the medication. This may result in you experiencing an initial shedding of hair.
