This medication is suitable for adults and children aged six and above and contains pholcodine.

Care Pholcodine Linctus is a cough suppressant which targets dry, tickly coughs that don't produce phlegm (mucus) on the chest. It's suitable for adults and children aged six and above and contains pholcodine.

  • When can't I take this medicine? 

    Avoid taking this medicine if:

    • You're sensitive to any of the ingredients.
    • You suspect a chest infection.
    • You have an ongoing lung condition.
    • You're currently taking Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs).
    • You're taking other cough or cold medicines.
    • You're pregnant or breastfeeding.
    • You're elderly.
    • You have asthma.
    • You're coughing up excessive secretions. 
    • You have kidney or liver disease.

  • How do I take this medicine?

    Adults and children aged 12 and above:
    Take two 5 ml doses three to four times daily when needed.

    Children aged between six and 11 years:
    Take one spoonful (5 ml) three to four times in 24 hours when needed.

  • What's pholcodine?

    Pholcodine is part of the cough suppressant family, combating that annoying tickle in your throat that usually accompanies a cough. It affects your brain, triggering the cough reflex and reducing nerve signals sent to the muscles concerned with coughing. Even though it doesn't tackle the source of the cough, it offers comfort, particularly during the night when you need rest.

Side Effects

As with all medicines, Care Pholcodine Linctus may cause side effects. However, this doesn't mean you'll experience any. Some side effects include:

  • An allergic reaction, like a rash on the skin.
  • Nausea (being sick).
  • Difficulty passing stools (constipation).
  • Drowsiness.
  • Dizziness.
  • Mucus in your chest.
  • Feeling excited or confused. 

Avoid consuming alcohol or operating machinery when taking this product, as it may cause drowsiness. If your symptoms persist for more than seven days, consult your doctor.
