Utovlan is an artificial version of a hormone that behaves like the naturally occurring hormone progesterone. It is used to delay a woman’s period for up to 17 days if necessary. It is not a form of contraception, so a woman must continue to take precautions. It is safe to use whilst a woman is taking the mini-pill; however, it isn’t safe whilst using a combined contraceptive pill.

Overview

NOTE: After selecting this product, you will need to complete a short assessment, so we can make sure this medication is suitable for you. Pricing is provided as a reference only. The final decision on issuing this medication remains with our GP / Pharmacist.

Utovlan, the brand name of norethisterone, is a synthetic version of the hormone progesterone, used to regulate periods. Norethisterone acts as a supplement to progesterone, keeping levels high so that the uterine wall does not shed as it does in a usual period, and will so prevent a usual bleeding period.
