• Medicines like benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, lorazepam) or opioid painkillers (e.g., codeine, morphine) can increase the risk of excessive drowsiness, sedation, or respiratory depression when combined with pholcodine.

MAO inhibitors (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors):

• These antidepressants (e.g., phenelzine, tranylcypromine) can interact dangerously with pholcodine, leading to heightened CNS effects or high blood pressure.

Antihistamines:

• Certain antihistamines (especially first-generation ones like diphenhydramine or chlorphenamine) may exacerbate drowsiness or sedation when taken with pholcodine.

Alcohol:
